NASC students embrace nature at Mount George Conservation Park
22 March 2022

Last week, students from Northern Adelaide Senior College’s (NASC) Outdoor Education class embarked on an unforgettable adventure into the heart of nature at Mount George Conservation Park in the Adelaide Hills. The excursion was part of the school’s commitment to providing enriching outdoor experiences for its students.

Students set out on a bushwalking expedition that immersed them in the park’s lush wilderness. As they navigated through winding trails and rocky terrain, the students had the opportunity to observe native flora and fauna, enhancing their understanding of the region’s biodiversity.

The trip not only offered a refreshing break from the classroom but also provided valuable lessons in environmental conservation and sustainability. Students engaged in hands-on activities, learning about the delicate balance of the ecosystem and the importance of preserving natural habitats.

“The Outdoor Education class at Northern Adelaide Senior College is designed to instil a sense of appreciation for the great outdoors,” said Tanya Taylor-Cox, the Outdoor Education instructor.

“Mount George Conservation Park served as an ideal setting for our students to connect with nature, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility and a deeper understanding of the world around them.”

The students enthusiastically participated in team-building exercises, honing their problem-solving skills and enhancing their ability to work collaboratively. The bushwalking experience challenged them physically and mentally, promoting resilience and self-confidence among the participants.

Principal Anne Sim expressed her pride in the students of the Outdoor Education program.

“Experiences like these are invaluable in shaping well-rounded individuals. Engaging with nature not only promotes physical well-being but also nurtures a sense of wonder and respect for our environment,” says Anne.

“We are committed to providing our students with opportunities that expand their horizons and encourage a lifelong love for learning.”

The Mount George Conservation Park excursion left a lasting impression on the students, inspiring them to explore the natural world further and fostering a deep-seated appreciation for the beauty and significance of Australia’s wilderness.

As NASC continues their outdoor education program, students can look forward to more immersive experiences that connect them with the great outdoors.
